Play it loud and drop sonic explosions into the still minds of the blissfully ignorant or blast it menacingly at the knowingly cruel. Celebrate its message in the comfort of your own convictions or march to war to the beat of its drum. The world is a vampire but it will not suck the passion from the hearts of those who refuse to stand quietly by while ignorance and greed destroy our seas. The Oceans of Music Project is a global collaboration to raise awareness to urgent oceanic issues. All artists are working for free and the music will be available for purchase through the Aqualise label with all proceeds supporting the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society at the point of sale. Our message. Stop stealing the fish from our seas and dumping them back dead over the side as unwanted bycatch. Stop polluting our seas with your industrial incompetence and lack of vision. Stop pumping CO2 into the air and into our oceans changing its chemistry for millions of years. Stop melting our polar ice sheets and then seeking to gain by prospecting new oil fields there. Stop destroying the shark gods in a sad attempt to boost your tiny lives. Stop denying climate change while you bleed every last drop of black blood from our crying planet. Stop blasting our marine life to death and to mass stranding with your naval sonar and do something more useful than billion dollar war games. Stop your greed machine slaughtering mother dolphins and selling their babies to dolphinariums. Stop stealing every last blue fin so you can freeze it down and sell it when its extinct to make billions. And most of all, stop killing those special, intelligent beautiful innocent harmless whales. To those that are asleep wake up and listen. Knowledge is power. To those that know and care we salute you and love you unconditionally. Sign the petitions, write the letters, hassle the politicians. Vote green, live green, breath green. Force corporations to change their ways by exercising your power of choice as a consumer. Boycott the greedy unsustainable, unethical companies and corporations that refuse to do the right thing. Support Sea Shepherd – volunteers championing human (r)evolution and species conservation through action. Spread the message, lead by example and be proud and loud with the good you do so that others who may not otherwise feel so brave can follow. We will never give up the fight for the out of sight.

Real Scenes is a series of films, supported by and conceived with Bench, in which we explore the musical, cultural and creative climate within electronic music’s key destinations. We’ll look at the role singular figureheads—producers, DJs, promoters—play in making their city’s music scene a point of world-wide interest. We’ll also look at places, spaces and inspirations, seeking out the essence of what gives these hyper-local scenes a truly global resonance.

Berlin has always been a special place, and especially so when it comes to electronic music. When the Berlin Wall came down in 1989, techno became the underground soundtrack to the reunion between East and West. In recent years, it’s become an international destination for ravers—a cheap place to party with clubs that are renowned throughout the world.

Techno has become a business in the meantime. Yet Berlin still maintains a credibility that other cities lack. To understand why, RA and Bench have teamed up for another edition of Real Scenes. We went to the German capital eager to find out about its unique history and the reasons behind its continued relevance.

You can’t talk about electronic music without mentioning Detroit. That’s why in the second edition of Real Scenes, RA and Bench went to the city which birthed the genre we now call techno.

Detroit has always had a creative streak, due in large part to the boom and subsequent bust of the auto industry. Quite simply, Detroit is a city of extremes, and its music reflects that. These days, Detroit’s importance in the global electronic music scene is often referred to in the past tense. When we visited the city, though, we found a number of artists with their eyes (and ears) firmly set towards the future. After our time in the Motor City, it’s clear to us that Detroit will endure and innovate for years to come.
